OIB completed the IceSat North mission today. There was a minor cloud/fog bank on the first flight line, otherwise another sunny “blue sky” day north of Thule with some minor turbulence bumps over the Petermann Glacier area. The easternmost line was shortened to allow the P3 to land at Thule within Friday airport hours. We overflew two ice bore research drill sites on the return to Thule. All OIB remote sensing instruments performed well again today.
After another outstanding week of missions, OIB will not fly over the weekend, Saturday will be a light maintenance day for instruments and aircraft, and Sunday will be a “hard down” rest day.
