I will be sending out our usual “sitreps” during the next few weeks during our deployment to Punta Arenas, Chile.
We currently are preparing to leave from Palmdale, CA around 9pm tonight on the DC-8. We should arrive in Santiago tomorrow morning (the flight is about 11 hours), with hopefully a quick turnaround through customs and a refuel. We will then proceed onward to Punta Arenas.
If things go as planned, we should be in Punta Arenas by Wednesday afternoon. Thursday will be an unpacking and setup day in preparation for our first possible flight to Antarctica on Friday. This is, of course, subject to change.
I’ll send out another update once we arrive in Punta Arenas and get settled in!
