ATM OIB SItrep 10/27/2016 PM

All,

We successfully completed “Sea Ice – Seelye Loop” today and got good data for most of the day.  There were occasional cloud banks that caused us to fly lower than usual, but we expected that due to the weather models.

I’ve attached a couple of pictures of ATM data over sea ice – the areas in the first plot where there are no returns (which appear to be ‘breaks’ in the data) are over open water, which the wide-scanning T6 tends to not see returns from.  The second plot is typical of sea ice, with a 1.75m total elevation variation in that section of data.

Tomorrow we’ll try for another flight, so it’ll be the same routine again.

 Until tomorrow,

 Rob
