Today we flew the ICESat-2 Central mission. This mission consists of 9 north-south ICESat-2 satellite tracks, tied together by 3 east-west lines. While the scenery might have been lacking today, this flight is still one of the highest in priority and will be an important baseline for the time series of data that ICESat-2 will collect after its launch late next year. All instrument reported successful data collection over the science lines, and are ready to attempt another flight tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the mission was largely flown over flat white ice under high clouds, so the pictures were few and far between. Below is a plot of of the elevations from the lines flown today.
